I can't stop being a misogynist. I'm trying, but I just cant unfuck my mind.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Examples? How are you a misogynist?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Attitudes and opinions that run counter to what everyone in the world knows to be true.

I find that...unlikely? Misogynist, sexist, and gender essentialist attitudes and opinions are quite popular the world over.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
It takes practice and little improvements at a time.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I know. I don't say or do anything misogynist anymore. I can hold the line, but I know in my heart I don't agree with the things a good person should think. There has to be an easier way to be.

It's okay. It really is. You're doing your best to not act on the misogyny, and that's more than most people.

I know this to be true, because I am a woman and a feminist and I STILL think sexist shit against women sometimes because it is so ingrained in our society. And I feel bad about it, but sometimes these things just pop up in my brain anyway.

DA

I read a quote once (which ofc I can't find now) that basically went along the lines of "it's not the initial thought that defines you, it's how you feel about that thought."

So like you say, certain things are so ingrained that they're bound to appear as knee-jerk thoughts or reactions from time to time; it's catching yourself doing it and realizing that they're not a line of thinking that you need to adhere to or follow that's the important part in changing your views.

Huh. You know, actually, my friend mods a reddit that might help you out, called 'changemyview.' Apparently a lot of people come on wanting to unfuck their heads about various things like that.

Maybe it'd be useful to you?

What are the specific views that you hold about women that bother you?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
What have you tried so far? One method I've seen recommended is consuming more media created by women. Make more friends who are women and get to know them the way you do your male friends. Talk to the women who are already in your life about their experiences. Basically, see them as people.

Use more willpower! If you suck at that, then believe in the me who believes very little in you, because my little is mustard seed of you thinking you can you think you can!
