I know this is an annoying way to respond to recs, so I am sorry, but have you read the Leviathan Wakes, James SA Corey stuff? It is pretty long, and it's not YA, but it's not too involved, and it's pretty space-opera-y, action-y stuff.

No I haven't but I won't rule it out. Just a bit tired of wading into epics when I just want a quick story

Eh, to be honest, in that case, it's probably not really your jam. It is long, and there is a lot of business; I think I'm misremembering it because I just kind of decided not to care about it.
