IIRC there's basically two TV/movie 'verses: There's the CW-verse (Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow) and there's the Supes/Bats-verse (the Superman movies, the new Batman movies, Supergirl). And they're totally separate.

And the DCAU I guess.

And then, I guess, there's also all of the movies and TV series that don't fit into any of those verses. But for live action things that are being released right now I'm pretty sure that they're all either in the Superman vs Batman continuity, or the Arrow continuity.

Supergirl is in with the Batman/Superman movies? It looks really fucking happy/colorful compared to the Batman/Superman verse.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-17 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
That is my understanding but it could be wrong

What I found in regard to Shared Universes "In November 2014, Berlanti expressed interest in Supergirl existing in the same universe as his other series Arrow and The Flash,[38] and in January 2015, The CW president Mark Pedowitz revealed that he was also open to a crossover between the series and networks (due to Berlanti executive producing all three and The CW co-owned by CBS). However, Tassler stated that month that, "those two shows are on a different network. So I think we'll keep Supergirl to ourselves for awhile.""

Eh. From what I read I don't think so. They MIGHt have a crossover with The Flash (if the networks can work it out). So I don't think Supergirl is in the Supes/Batman verse.

Will they just keep saying "your cousin" forever then? With no actual direct reference?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-17 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I think Superman will be referenced in Supergirl. From the trailer, it looked like he's the one who ends up taking her to the Danvers. He just won't be directly shown. More...see from a distance, edge of a cape, type thing.

But I don't think it's in the same universe as the movies though. Different Jimmy Olsen for one thing.

that's exacty how you don't reference somebody though. Don't see them, don't call them by their name...

This looks okay but I'm going to be eyerolling a lot if the whole show's gonna be like that.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-17 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Well...I mean, I think they'll call him by name? I mean, I think you will hear people talking about Superman? He definitely exists. In the trailer, Kara's cape is a gift from him, via Jimmy. You're just not going to see him directly.

But that's enough info for me to think they are in the same verse, definitely.

I don't think so. I think Supergirl is its own separate universe. It's definitely not in the same universe as the movies, and although Berlanti would like it to be in the same universe as his other DC shows (Arrow/Flash/LoT), it sounds like CBS is not big on the idea. So for now it's kind of on its own.

I don't know anything about these verses specifically, so I can't say, but from the outside if there's one verse and it directly references a character known to be in another, I'd assume they were the same verse with the absence of other evidence.

No, nothing on TV is in the same universe as the DC movies. At least for now.
