Japanese natto (fermented soy beans?). I mean, I'm vegetarian so soy stuff is petty regular to me, and when I think "gross food" I mostly wonder whether or not I can even eat it, vegetarianism considered. And I don't find the taste that bad? In a maki sushi roll it's nice.

But yeah notoriously loathed food, by gaijin and even many Japanese people, lol

I love the stuff, too. I make it myself, sometimes. (I just love fermenting stuff. it's like the food cooks itself)
Also, in my experience, small children usually like it.

Eh, I had some natto sushi when I was in Japan and I didn't vomit or anything.

It didn't taste amazing or anything, and the texture was off-putting on its own, but eaten with rice and doused in soy sauce it was just kind of there; I had no problem with it.

Now, on the other hand, the first time I drank barely tea it was lukewarm and thick and tasted exactly like bile to me.

And pickled sakura leaf tea is still the worst thing I have ever drunk.
