What fictional world is your escapist fantasy?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-17 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
As in, a fictional world that you would teleport yourself if you could to escape the stress of real life.

The Culture. For very obvious reasons.

Beat me to it. :)

The series sucked, but I was really drawn to the concept of Sword Art Online. I'm great at video games and the thought of virtually, physically interacting in one just really appeals to me. Not just as a generic fantasy world, but the idea where life is coded out - fight enemies and level up, combine various items to craft recipes, carry loot in an invisible bag - if gaming companies could ever make something like that real, I'd probably never leave. (which is actually a bad thing but yeah.)

To escape stress? Probably the Shire from LOTR. Pretty, nice weather, no adventures, lots of food.

Lot of hard rural labor though. Unless you are a middle class monyed and male hobbit.

Maybe Pokemon World. It always seems so nice and happy, and you get to go off on your own and befriend magical monsters, and make a name for yourself just by wandering about.

na

Yeah, I think I might go with this one as well. Plus, people in the pokemon world can apparently withstand being repeatedly charred and severely shocked by their pokemon (that's happened to Ash like, what, a hundred times?) with no long term effects, so that's nice

I'd agree with Pokemon world, there's so much to do there too.

Definitely Pokemon-world. It's so chill that ten-year-olds regularly beat up the hardened criminal organizations with their housepets. I don't think we got much to worry about.

I'd probably like to be one of those random NPCs who gives out ribbons for stuff. That would be cool.

Discworld.

Also the world of FFIX.

Ivalice or Spira (Final Fantasy XII and X/X-2) respectively.

Other than that, Skyrim is nice to get lost in some times. And Harry Potter for books. Lord of the Rings for movies.

That's easy. Blade Runner universe, or something like it (Blade Runner is representative of like 80% of my aesthetic preferences.) I never really got a sense of massive corporate control and the like compared to more explicitly cyberpunk works. It's probably not perfect, but it's gotta be better than here.

Pros of living in Blade Runner:

1) Awesome noodle joints
2) Rain / darkness all the time, cool buildings
3) Robots!

Cons of living in Blade Runner:

1) Like, everything else

Either Middle Earth, a BioWare universe (I want to sleep with some sexy fictional characters; a drell or a turian or a qunari), or maybe Star Wars. (I know how unlikely me having force powers would be even if I lived in the SW universe, but that doesn't stop me wanting it.)

I was thinking BioWare (Dragon Age mostly) universe too, though it's not exactly a vacation land. Still, I wanna be a Tower Mage turned Apostate. :D

The 24th century Star Trek universe, but on Earth, not on a starship or starbase.

More specifically, Joseph Sisko's New Orleans restaurant.

Hmm, maybe a not-Clu2-controlled Grid? I kind of like the idea. Plus, time doesn't really pass all that much on the outside, so you could stay there just about as long as you'd like.

Probably Star Trek.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-18 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
But it depends heavily on the exact time - I don't want to deal with the Dominion or the Borg or really whatever is going on in the new movies.

And also Seaquest, Stargate Atlantis, and Eureka, but only in times in-between crises (they have to have those, right?).

Had to think about it cause it's definitely not mad max. X-x

Decided on either Pern, because sexism aside it's a world I like to think about and also dragons.
