(Anonymous) 2015-05-18 01:42 am (UTC)(link)An old best friend. She was the first person I truly fell in love with, got me through some seriously bad shit, introduced me to all kinds of things that I still love today. We haven't talked in at least ten years, but I know if I heard she'd died I'd be devastated.
My step-grandmother. She bought me a piano even though she barely knew me. I played for hours every single day for years. She sent me CDs and DVDs of classical music and operas and plays. We only ever met a handful of times and never really kept in touch, and now that my granddad is dead I'm not in contact at all. But she's still one of my favorite people in the world because of what she did for me. I can only hope that when I'm older I'm as graceful and generous as she was.
One of my teachers. He gave me something to do during breaks to keep me away from bullies. He helped me take advantage of cool oppurtunies, like doing a poetry workshop or letting me help with big projects. He helped me deal with a crappy homelife when literally every other adult I knew was oblivious. I'd have committed suicide ten times over if not for him.
Sometimes you just have to accept that a person can mean a lot to someone else, even if they aren't "close" or don't talk anymore or whatever.
