When husbands whose wives are pregnant say "we're pregnant."

I can't think of anything wrong with saying this, but it annoys me so much it makes me cringe.

oh god, do I hate this. I want to see how cute those guys would think they were being if someone rammed a grapefruit up their ass.

LOL.

If I ever find myself married and pregnant, I am definitely going to make my husband swear to never, ever, ever use this phrase. (What's wrong with "we're expecting"? Why can't people just use that instead?)

I have a good reason for why it's wrong: if they were saying "we're going to have a baby" it would be fine. But instead they're claiming "we're pregnant" when pregnancy =/= going to have a baby. "We're going to have a baby" means that this couple is adding a baby to their family. Pregnancy, on the other hand, is a physical trait and process. They're claiming to have this physical trait and to have this physical process going on inside them, when they're NOT.

That totally makes sense! Part of why it annoys me so much is the mental image. It makes me think of the husband and wife connected a la Siamese twins by their bellies while a baby slowly grows inside the tube of skin connecting them...
