DA But if a parent doesn't categorize, the kid is actually less likely to categorize as well and I think that falls in line with OPs point since they are talking about people who are familiar with the concept of genderqueer.

Kids gender because they are told to and they don't have the critical thinking skills to question it yet. Even without those skills though, a lot of kids will pick up toys regardless of the gender it's for. They might carry some shame about it if they're not in a supportive environment, but I've known plenty of cis people who admitted they played with toys that were "not for them" as a kid. It had nothing to do with them wanting to be another gender and everything to do with them just liking that specific thing.
