I have the opposite issue. I'm constantly discovering things I rejected as a child (I have a very poor sense of taste and so I tend to rely on texture, and most things are not pleasing to put in my mouth -- and my mom was never a very good cook anyway) are actually pretty good.

Brain chemistry affects how you perceive, so it's common for people to grow up and start liking things they hated before since they literally taste different and better to them than they did before the chemical changes during puberty and adulthood. It's not your sense of taste being bad, it's totally normal. Most kids hate onions, for example.

I still hate onions though :D I like the taste of them as it's very strong, so I'll eat things with onion flavor -- but the actual onions can get the fuck out. Texture thing.

Was only an example :) because I notice people saying a lot they somehow started to like things as an adult and not being sure why, and it's all brain chemicals literally changing how the foods taste to them

I loved onions as a kid and most of the other kids I knew liked them, my sister was the only kid I knew who hated them.

How you perceive taste*

I've been discovering veggies since I moved on my own. Couldn't stand most veggies when I was kid, nowadays I do like most, if I can make them my way. Except carrots. Hate carrots. Ugh.

There's of course always that step of "I remember hating this" that you need to cross. I haven't tried beans again yet, because I can't bring myself to cross that line.

For me it's a bigger step because while my tastebuds may have changed, I still have some lingering issues with texture that make, for example, peas and lima beans impossible to eat.

Texture issues are difficult, I agree. Peanut butter is not a thing where I live, and I've recently tried it and found out that my brain can't progress the peanut taste without the peanut texture. It's odd and kinda uncomfortable.

If you can find crunchy peanut butter, try that, it might help.

I love peanut butter, but crunchy peanut butter is my jam*. It might be a texture thing, but I think I just love peanuts.

* pun not intended...

I don't think there was crunchy peanut butter in the store I visited. But if I ever feel like I need peanut butter I'll keep that in mind.

Idk, peanut butter is a bit odd as a concept to me, but it's probably just because it's so uncommon here. And I do love peanuts!
