Bashing is the obvious one, and bashing that tries to pretend it's not annoys me even more so.

Also making characters do OOC shit for the sake of angst , melodrama or whatever is kind of annoying, especially demonizing nice characters into being horribly abusive. I recall a DP fic that had Danny's parents being wildly OOCly abusive to him , with his mother being a crazy boy hater and the father being a doormat to her (like at birth they ask the doctors if they can make Danny into a girl) and then a teacher who lectures hims about how being gay is horrible because poor 4 year old Danny tries to dress up as his sister who is the only child that they treat well. The author tried to claim they were writing some kind of "psychological deconstruction/study of the family. Except they were nothing like their canon selves whatsoever and all of the issues were pulled from the author's ass.

Oh god I hate it when people try to justify bashing/OOC:ness with deconstruction. Especially if they claim it's "more realistic" because 99% of the time it's not more realistic even by real world standards.

To continue the DP examples, I read a fic that attempted to deconstruct Vlad's fixation on Danny and the latter's mysterious wounds/bruises by crossing it over with... NCIS I think? Except the main character instantly realized several things for no particular reason, and the fic acted like he'd be able to one-up the canonically charismatic and manipulative millionaire by... basically implying things about him and Danny. Because that totally works all the time in the real world, especially if the police do it!

He also lectured other DP-characters for never noticing Danny's bruises (isn't it pretty border-line canon he heals quickly?) and for not noticing how ~bad~ Vlad is. I mean I know Danny's parents are oblivious, but not THAT much. And then at the end it trotted out therapy as a solves-all-DP-problems-almost-instantly-button which... no.

There were other things in the fic that struck me as off, but the above stood out to me.

Augh that sounds obnoxious. Characters being made dumb just so one can be "smart" or deliver an Aesop.

I still remember heraring about an FMA fic that seemed to be trying to pretend that they weren't bashing Winry but instead playing up the wrench gag as drama. But only the wrench gag and using it to break them up and have the author's slash ship "win" instead. Riiiight.
