Peggy Sue fics that are excellently written, but in the end do not deviate in any meaningful way from canon. I mean, what's the goddamn point then?! >:[

I agree, as long as the alternative isn't a character playing the series on god-mode.

But even the god mode ones tend to follow canon? It's just they have no fear of anything like they did the first time around, which makes it even more boring.

Although, granted I did read this one Harry Potter fic that had him becoming a dragon animagus in a blink of an eye. Never explained. Just BOOM. Dragon.

I swear there was an Evangelion fic that had the fucking classmate trio do the Peggy Sue after the end of the series and everything was changing and it looked so fucking good and then I forgot about it for three months and the author deleted it :(

I did see a pretty good Star Wars Prequels one once though, so there's that. Points for originality in that Obi-Wan straight-up tells the Jedi Council that he remembers the future, but then it got kiiiiiiind of batshit crazy (but in an entertaining way).

I wouldn't mind it if the premise was worse-world AU, but I can only recall one fic like that.

I was gonna say I don't mind as much when the character is accidentally Peggy Sued and tries to stay undercover, but I realized most of the time there are still some changes.
