(Anonymous) 2015-05-26 03:03 am (UTC)(link)You haven't seen all those omegaverse fics where people lovingly and explicitly write about dudes getting knocked up? A big reason why omegaverse is so popular is the "breeding" part that's featured in so much of it and there's absolutely more focus on conceiving and carrying the child than there is on actually raising it for the most part. It's not something I'm terribly interested in, but it's a pretty popular kink (kind of like how, outside of fandom, there are plenty of guys who have fetishes for pregnant women. It takes all kinds I guess)

(Anonymous) 2015-05-26 06:01 am (UTC)(link)As you so eloquently said, mmmmmhmmmm.
And frankly, there are fanfic pet peeves and there's pushing an agenda of your own onto other people's kinks.

a dickcranky. I'm sorry if I've hurt your feelings, I don't hate pregnancy kinks or mpreg I'm just put out that a lot of kidfic/family fic use it as a go to.I'm thinking more family fics where the samesex couple wants a child and the writer/fan artist goes to the trouble of writing about mpreg (in a non mpreg world) or some kind of external force making a scifi DNA tube secret experiment baby or magic being takes aspects of both and turns into a baby. Where the focus is generally on raising the kid and lots of gushing comments about how it looks like both its daddies. I'm thinking of two fics in particular but I'd rather not name them.
Oh and Harry Potter fics where for whatever reason snape is growing to like Harry and then surprise he's his child all along so sudden he cares more. Or he does adopt an unrelated Harry and magic happens and suddenly he's a biological child and the kidfic doesn't even try to explore adoption.
I'm excluding abo fics of course ;) by virtue I only read those for the dynamics and steer clear of any with mpreg in it. I doubt there's high level conspiracy or thinking behind it.
It just irks me mostly

(Anonymous) 2015-05-26 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)Mpreg fics, even before the rise of A/B/O, often focus on issues like the Hot Controversial Hookup, baby-daddy drama, pregnancy hurt/comfort, the antics of birthing, and maybe some desultory afterthought about the new parents coping with their newborn(s). It's What to Expect When You're Expecting, fanfic edition. The credits roll when the baby cries.
The other kind of fic actually falls under the umbrella of kid!fic. It's these stories that focus on family life and treat the new additions as actual characters (more or less) rather than plot devices. The kids could be the result of mpreg, but more often I find that if someone just wants to write fic about their favorite characters raising kids, they'll go for more, uh, conventional methods to procure some younglings. Like the death of a friend/relative, leaving their kids orphaned and up for grabs. Or de-aging other characters (which is weird as hell, but whatev).
Characters making the choice to adopt, now that is actually quite rare, perhaps having to do with the writers' general lack of knowledge of the adoption process (which, to be honest, isn't always scintillating fanfic material). Or they just think it's more dramatic when characters have a kid dropped in their laps that they end up having to raise. Either way, you need to know exactly what kind of fic you want to read, because if it's the latter stuff you're interested in, you're not going to find it in most mpreg, and for good reason. Those authors are too busy having the characters engage in sweaty preggers sex.
