Perscirption Eyeglasses
(Anonymous) 2015-05-26 03:35 am (UTC)(link)I've been using microfiber cleansing cloths and an a microfiber cloth, and it seems to make it worse? I'm wondering if I shouldn't get spray cleaner. But it seems they are pushing the cleansing clothes so much, I don't see it anymore.
It could just be the glasses. I only got they automatic scratch coating, and standard anti-reflective coating. But these have been the worst pair I've ever gotten.
Do you wear glasses? Do you buy your glasses in store or online? How do you clean your glasses? Any tips or help?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-26 03:38 am (UTC)(link)Re: Perscirption Eyeglasses
(Anonymous) 2015-05-26 03:45 am (UTC)(link)I've had this pair over a year and I keep it under control with occasional washes with warm water and a little dish soap, and the microfibre cloth in between. I haven't seen any noticeable effect on the coating or the lenses, but again, I have no idea if there are variations in the coating ingredients whereby some might react to the soap more than others.
Make sure the cloth itself is also as clean as it can be, though. I've found that otherwise you're just pushing the smudge around the lens instead of cleaning it off. Stick to using one side of the cloth for the lenses and one side for contact with your fingers so that the cloth doesn't pick up oils or lint etc. And give the cloth itself a wash/replace it every so often.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-26 03:50 am (UTC)(link)I use little cleaning wipes once in awhile to cut through the ick, and replace my microfiber cloth frequently. Soap and water works too, but drying them off without getting them dirty again can be tricky. Ultimately, Zenni is so cheap and I have to update my prescription so often that I don't worry about damaging the glasses while cleaning them.
Re: Perscirption Eyeglasses
Sadly, you need eyeglass cleaner because of the amount of protein that is going to wind up on the lenses and because you don't want to risk damaging the coatings. You can't just use dish soap. This is one of those situations where you need to buy the marketed product.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-26 05:32 am (UTC)(link)Personally, I find an anti-reflective coating on eyeglasses to be pretty useless. It makes them a lot harder to keep clean and provides no real benefit that I can see. I always go for the hardest lenses available, which helps prevent scratches without extra coatings. (Now, if only I coud get safety glasses and non-perscription sunglasses made out of that same stuff...)

Re: Perscirption Eyeglasses
HOWEVER, JUST SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND GET YOUR EYES LAZERED. DO IT. BEST DECISION EVER FUCK GLASSES AND CONTACTS 4 LYFE.
Re: Perscirption Eyeglasses
(Anonymous) 2015-05-26 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)But when they do get smudged I just rinse them with liquid soap under warm running water and then dry them with whatever lint-free soft cloth happens to be floating around. Sometimes a smudge is a bit stubborn. Then it's just another rinse, another buff, and there you go.
