Re: Welcome to Night Vale
Re: Welcome to Night Vale
Honestly, you could probably listen to the last three and not miss much even if you don't look up what's being referenced. Just depends if you are more interested in what's going on with background events and minor characters (like Earl Harlan) and what looks like plot seeding for the future, or ongoing de-mystification and friends drama. You get both.
Re: Welcome to Night Vale
Heh, I'm not sure if I even remember who Earl Harlan was...
I think my main problem with Nightvale is how in the beginning, Cecil was the kind of neutral narrator for Nightvale. Now, Nightvale is the background for Cecil and his shenanigans. I liked this "creepy community" feel of the first few episodes, the way that Nightvale itself was the main "character", and now (err... well not now but when I stopped listening) it's the "Cecil and friends" show and oh, yeah, there's also Nightvale.
I guess the way it started out wasn't exactly suited for a long-running show, but I'm not sure I like the direction they took with the changes.
Re: Welcome to Night Vale
If it had stuck to that formula, I think I still would have loved it, even if it only meant seeing the citizens growing from Cecil's POV (the decried racist headdress wearing guy for instance, I'm glad I never got to hear his voice or see all that much of him). There was more room for interpretation, and to consider him as an unreliable narrator.
Re: Welcome to Night Vale
I get it that it's the way they make their money to keep the show running, and since it's a free podcast I can't really complain. But it somehow feels like it's a bit ... too crowdsourced.
A thing I'm really sad about is how I actually liked Cecil alot in the beginning but now I find him kind of annoying, somehow. It's a pity. (Carlos as well, but that's because I really don't like his voice and I'm very ... voice fixated ahahaha OTL).
