I feel like this is a pretty natural progression, tbh. When I was little, I crushed on older men (mostly fictional, though), and always imagined them falling in love with me or with Mary Sues my age. It's the kind of thing you play out in your head as you start to figure out what love is and so on. It's a fantasy, and as long as you eventually realize how creepy this would be IRL, there's no harm in it.

I think it's especially common for girls because girls in general mature emotionally faster than boys do. I remember being in seventh grade and looking at the seventh grade boys and just going "ugh." Naturally, the guys in my romantic fantasies all ended up being older than me because I wasn't attracted to thirteen-year-old boys who acted like thirteen-year-old boys.

Boys are always crushing on older girls as well lol because everyone is gross when you're a kid.

I used to dream about Jessica Rabbit when I was 10 hahaha
