Tomorrow my surfing class is going to the coast for our first attempt at actual ocean surfing!

I am going to wipe out so many times though. >_>;;

This is gonna be fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun.

Are you fucking kidding me, I'd never surf. Be on the surface of the water? Not a chance. That's where sharks like to sample from the buffet.

That's when you punch them in the face/gills/nose/whatever. :P

Plus, of the sixteen sharks that are on my coast, only two of them are harmful to humans! The... tiger shark... and the great white...

I hope it's too cold for them this time of year. |D

And all the others, well, I've always wanted to pet a shark. |D

I've only surfed twice. TBH, if you manage to catch a wave a la boogie boarding, you're probably going to be ecstatic. Never managed to stand up for more than two seconds before flipping over.

The teacher did suggest that we do that the first couple of times to get a feel for it, so I probably will. It's a nice sandy beach, so I don't have to super worry about plowing into rocks, which is nice. |D

I think we get to go twice, to the coast? So for this run I'm not sure if I'm even going to try standing up yet. |D

My bf's b-day is tomorrow, and yes there will be cake.

The only surfing I've ever done is body surfing, which I'm sure does not compare but which is still fun.

I hope the surf is nice and flat for you! I know that sounds weird, but if it's your first time out, you want to be able to get a feel for it without constantly being dumped off.

Don't worry about standing yet, just get comfortable paddling and turning into little waves and staying ahead of them a little. If you're comfy you can put your hands up on the board and get a feel for doing little push-ups and holding them for a few seconds. That's the first movement when you're trying to stand, and it will help if you're already used to keeping the board stable.

Don't forget to have fun and apply sunscreen! You'll want to do the parts of your face and neck that will catch the reflected light off the water.

It was supposed to be just three feet swells, but when we got there they were five feet. Not the most terrifying, but a bit more than I was up for, lol. D

I ended up just belly boarding in the entire time I was out there. |D It was a lot of fun, and I managed to get some nice waves~

Thanks for the reminder! I remembered to take sunscreen with me, and then everyone else borrowed it to, because no one had thought of it. |D

My friends are always giving me crap for bringing sunscreen everywhere. I'm just so pale that if I forget it I definitely feel the regret later. I've become that person who tells everyone to look after their skin.

Yeah. My granddad had skin cancer, so it's kind of a sore point in my family.

I mean, he survived it, didn't die of it or anything, but it's still a sore point, you know?

Yeah. My mum's cancer was melanoma. I would prefer the people I care about to be nagged to death about not getting sun damage than go through that.

My younger brother's have a friend who's mom died, and he takes a lot of glee out of taking the wind out of people's sails when they make those same kinds of jokes. You're not alone in that regard. :3

Sometimes it has to be done, though. If people persist in asking me what my plans are for christmas, and telling them I don't really celebrate it won't get them off my back, I'm like "well it's more that I don't have any living family who want to celebrate it with me...so" and that usually ends the conversation pretty quickly.
