As opposed to everyone else? I think this is the default for most writers. (caveat for Mary Sues, inexperienced writers, etc. etc.)

Why don't you give an example instead of insinuating that everyone else's original characters have no real purpose to their stories?

I'm not insinuating anything?

I've read stories where OC's are more prominent because I guess people enjoy writing them?

Examples for me: I have an alien weapons/scrap dealer, a medical doctor willing to turn blind eye for the protagonist, a local sheriff...etc.
