It seems like every time there's a thread anywhere on unpopular opinions about books or movies or whatever, it turns into nothing but "they said this was good; I didn't like it". I'd like to hear some of the opposite opinions. Not that I don't enjoy the complaints but it gets a bit old after a while without some happy stuff to balance it out.

So things that are widely seen as bad, but that you think are good?

Either that you think is good or that you really like despite its problems

Tom Cruise in general. I love his movies (and I find him handsome). No one else in my family does. :(

ST Enterprise?

it's not my favorite star trek series, but I enjoyed most of enterprise (I like me some scott bakula, what can I say). I was kind of surprised when I found out that it was so reviled.

Maybe this would be a good time to finally make a Chobits secret. I've been considering it for a while. (I got in an argument with someone who thought it was sexist trash--I think a lot of it has to be understood in the context of Japanese culture.)

I still like Supernatural.

Me too! I don't like ALL of the decisions being made with the show or the way that it glosses over some issues that would have been really interesting to explore further, but it's still a show that I enjoy and think is fun. Also, I really like Sam whump and the show has been delivering on that for the past couple of seasons so...

Name a writer who is considered pretentious. I probably like them.

John Irving comes to mind. (I hated A Prayer for Owen Meany so very much.)

I actually haven't read any of his work yet. I keep meaning to.

Many things. Nu!Trek, Sherlock, Dragon Age 2, Assassin's Creed 3, Uncharted 3, The Matrix films, The Hobbit films, Metal Gear Solid 2...

Most sexist stuff. I really enjoy problematic stuff that most people think of as anti-women or misogynistic.

I'm willing to throw problematic things onto the list of stuff I didn't like about the book/movie/etc and still devote time to the list of things I do like about it. I don't like the sexist/not sexist dichotomy people set up (or homophobic or ableist or whatever).

I almost didn't watch Owari no Seraph because all the first impressions people posted here were negative. Turns out I love it.

I'm aware it's not an unpopular opinion in greater anime fandom, before anyone asks.

I thought the modern day storyline of Assassin's Creed was the best part.

there's a looooot of stuff I really unironically like that other people think is bad or mediocre. Maybe in part it's because I'm still relatively new to fandom IDK.

I unironically love YGO for example. Also MCU (I mean a lot of people love it but don't take it seriously; I actually really like the story and characters, and since I haven't read the comics it's really exploring something new for me).
