Re: We're Alive A Story of Survival
One of my favourite things was that it evens the scales, not too majorly, by suggesting that if there are zombie outliers like Ink, why not humans too (like Saul and Tanya). Which also let me hope for Datu to be immune, and boy was it dragged out waiting to die, because DATUUUUU. He's got brainy brains! You can't afford to lose those! And he was the best that too (Angel saying something like, "Datu's crying again. Everything's back to normal." Is one of my favourite lines).
Saul though. I wasn't expecting it either, so by the time it was clear it was a suicide mission, I was stressing how he hadn't resolved anything with his mom. I'm a sort of sucker when stories make someone who wasn't the first lead (or pov in this case) the ultimate hero/chosen one/martyr. I remember listening to this on a train ride to or from work, and I tore up during his last phone call. That sure was embarrassing.
I still think Scratch was a villain sue (really, boss guy? You patiently let with the established treachery have a speech, why exactly.). So yeah, Bill dealing with her was very satisfying. It'd been hinted that he had blood on his hands after serving the army, and I kinda like that he didn't want Riley to carry that over her head. Yes. Let him be the cruel revenge guy ♥
By the way, so many awesome friendships and odd great pairings in this show. Riley and Bill, Michael and Kelly (ship it), Saul and Victor (ship it) and CJ (ot3 it), Michael and his newfound army posse who (ship that), Tanya and Kelly, Datu and the genius old guy from the colony, Hope and Tanya, Lizzy and the giant prisoner guy, and so on. Hell, I actually would have liked to hear what Scratch and Lizzy talked about during their sessions. Plus I got my Victor/Kelly canonized at the end! I think?
I also liked the imperfect future. And another thing I liked was people reluctantly falling into place, and thriving (and help others to do so) on the roles landed on them. CJ leading the colony, even if she despised what the place meant at first; Riley coming back to the fold, probably finally coping in healthy ways, and grief counselling.
I'm not excited about Lockdown, but I'll give it a try since sticking with WA paid off. So glad I listened to this show :)
