All the wank comes from the anon side, and creating an account is not terribly difficult, and since everyone is so against the IP logging going on I think we might be out of options. Either we embrace the wank - please no - or make people have to be slightly more accountable for keeping this place better.

I had the impression that the people against IP logging were a loud minority. And a lot of the complaints about it are obvious jokes making fun of the people who are against it. I'd be interested to know how many people actually care.

No, the community should be anons only. This is a secrets community, forced anonymity is the way to go.

Delete the comments trying to start shit, problems solved. There are named users who are shit posters, having a name doesn't solve the problem.

Nah. I might get harassed by people who are anons (or have gone anon) but I don't really care to have them banned.

I'm just not going to take their comments seriously. There are pros and cons to having a name or being anon, and as long as people can accept that then it should stay as it is.

If you're a named user you make yourself a target if you ever post a controversial opinion under your username. Fine, fair enough, but you also have the benefit of visibility and other users generally knowing who you are and taking your comments more seriously.

If you're an anon you can post whatever you want with minimal or temporary repercussions, but you can't then turn around and complain that your opinion is ignored or isn't taken seriously.

Them's the tradeoffs, and it obviously takes all kinds to keep the community going.

Yeah, I don't think anon's need to be banned. They're basically just decoration to me.

People will still troll even with accounts, the wank is not entirely an anon phenomena. People will just make socks and troll that way.

You also risk losing some people who don't want to be off anon. I wouldn't mind making an account but I know some people are more comfortable anon.

You're very dedicated to ridding FS of the ebul anons. I suggest you create a costume and come up with an alter-ego whose entire purpose is going around the internets fighting wank and the forces of evil. Post a picture of yourself wearing said costume and come up with a username to reflect your new career.

No, people should not be forced to make an account to post, not should they be forced to go anon. They should do whatever they want because this is a place (most) people come to have fun and enjoy themselves, and there's no reason to restrict people from doing one or the other (Or both).

And people with accounts can cause drama too. Anyone can cause drama if they choose, so having more users won't stop that.

Honestly, I think the best approach is what we've got now--anon posts, but an active mod who freezes threads that go too far. (I feel like we could use another mod or two, if only to relieve some of the pressure on Case, but I can understand why he wants to keep it a solo endeavor.)

I have several DW accounts already (created at different times for different purposes), so I could sort of sockpuppet along if I had to be "anonymous" for some reason. But sometimes I just want to say something honest without having too much blowback from it.
