I've seen fics where people ask for updates, however after the fics are finished the authors get zero feedback. I mean, even if readers didn't like it, they could thank the writer for completing the thing. I've seen it happen on kinkmemes.

So, what I'm driving at here, is that the readers are fickle, so don't worry about them too much. They'll be happy to see an old WIP updated anyway. Can't imagine anyone going:
"That lowlife of a writer dared to update their fic, the nerve!"
