The movie dials back on some of the humor in the book, IMO. It definitely has very funny moments and a light hand, but it's more like a funny take on a familiar kind of fairy tale whereas the book is zanier, more all over the place (hitting up Hollywood, prose styles, publishing, etc) and has some darker moments/shades.

It's a good adaptation, but in the sense that they didn't try to make it exactly like the book, since a lot of the book jokes are things that wouldn't translate from text to acting.
