Hear, hear. The Wizard of Oz movie always bored me (the books were pretty cool!), but I loved her in this film.

Now the Trolley Song will be stuck in my head for the next week...

I was always disappointed that Judy Garland seemed way too old for the part of Dorothy.

Same here. Watching the film I always wondered why Dorothy acted like a much younger child. It wasn't until I read the book that I realized book Dorothy was about 8 or 9.

In the context of Meet Me in St. Louis, JG's rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" is utterly heartbreaking.

Which is one of the things I love most about this film ♥

The Wizard of Oz always seemed rather overdone and exceedingly sentimental. I can agree that this is the superior film.

Also the dresses in this one are prettier.

I'm partial to In the Good Old Summertime myself.

The Harvey Girls is my fave. I love Angela Lansbury as a bad girl.

Meet Me in St. Louis is lightyears better than Wizard of Oz. I totally agree with you OP.

This is one of my favorite movies ever. I try to rewatch it every year. I don't remember the last time I willingly sat through Wizard of Oz.

To be fair, I'm not sure my opinions really have anything to do with JG specifically. The plot and overall production matters more to me than who the star is.

I open my holiday film watching with this one. I probably would say A Star is Born, or Summer Stock are on par with this (maybe Star is a bit better). Oz is probably in fourth place after that.

And I am a huge fan of the Oz books.

I have to concur and say that "A Star is Born" is her best performance. (Judy deserved that Oscar, but she lost to Grace Kelly)

If Judy had been feeling well, she would have made the best Annie Oakley in the film adaptation of "Annie Get Your Gun" (sadly, only limited footage of her, plus the songs she sang for the soundtrack only exists).
