I hated this scene. I don't think Lee overacted for the most part but I did feel like they were having two different scenes here. Like, you could really tell that they were acting against a green ball here. The dialogue felt really weird - like it didn't flow like normal speech but went from bullet point to bullet point.

I generally like Lee Pace as Thranduil. I think his look is good and he does well with some pretty crappy dialogue. But there are so many decisions PJ and Company made about his character in the movies that have really soured me on film!Thranduil completely. Still really disappointed about that.

I can't wait for this to become the new 'Shang from Mulan II click and drag' meme. Every face he makes in this scene is unintentionally hilarious!

I only regret that this is likely the only movie wel'll ever see them in together. With the way they happily keep on living in the glass closet (and hey, good for them for keeping their private life private), they'll likely never act together again.

(Although maybe Bryan Fuller could get Lee a small roll on Hannibal in a hypothetical season 4. Since he originally wanted Lee to play the role that he then gave to Richard, he might still want to get him on board...)

"and hey, good for them for keeping their private life private"

IKR? I sooooo prefer it when homosexuals have enough tact to keep it on the downlow.

I haven't seen The Hobbit and have no interest in seeing The Hobbit, but that's kind of a sexy screenshot.

I dunno... he looks like he just released a very satisfying fart.

Hmm, well this was one of my least favorite scenes of his (the others being his final scenes with Tauriel and Legolas), but overall I liked his performance. I sort of agree that he plays the character over the top in a way that most the cast don't (most, Alfrid is a good example of an over the top character but that was a terrible role in the first place and there was no saving it), but I also really liked his costume and his voice, so I can mostly forgive the rest.

Besides, there's plenty of issues with these films...this isn't even the biggest, lol.

This I agree with. The scene wasn't the best, but in general I liked his performance. It was over the top, but it worked for me. He was very much an unearthly elf who was a king and who was not concerned with the cares of this world anymore outside his own kingdom.

Also, yes, his voice.

Also, shamefully, I even found Lee attractive as Ronan. Even blue makeup can't hide the pretty or that sexy voice.

Y'all are mean. Everybody keeps picking on poor Lee and his stupid eyebrows and his orgasm face without ever mentioning that it was a terribad movie all around. No need to single him out.

I so wish I could disagree but they really were. The few things I liked do not cancel out all the terrible things in them.

It's a bit of an awkward scene tbh and I'm not quite sure what exactly Pace was going for but, it didn't work for me. I liked him the rest of the time though.

Maybe it's because I didn't care for the movies overall, but this was actually one of my favorite scenes? Not for canon adherence by any means, but come on! It gave us one of the best Tyra crossovers of all time. OF ALL TIME.

This scene is one of those over-the-top moments of strutting madness that for one reason or another don't trigger my secondhand embarrassment at all. I just watched it again and I'm 100% into Pace desperately chewing the scenery for sustenance. Then again, I was also into Charlize Theron in Snow White and the Huntsman and whatever the hell Eddie Redmayne was doing in Jupiter Ascending. I guess there's something about extremely hot actors playing villains in amazingly impractical clothes that choke my disbelief to sleep and leave me begging for more. They could break out into the Thriller dance and I'd probably still swoon.

Lee Pace as Thranduil had his moments but bits of it just didn't work for me. It was a little too melodramatic. Scenery was nibbled.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-02 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I completely agree with you OP. I had to look away during this scene, I just couldn't handle the embarrassment.

I actually love the scene and how over the top it is, but I love all the Thranduil scenes.

I actually loved it and it was one of my favourite scenes from the movie, but everyone's allowed to have their own opinion.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-03 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I loveeee this scene so much ngl. Worth the price of admission just for Lee Pace's Thranduil
