I feel you OP.

I like Stucky but holy hell am I sick of Woobie!Bucky.

I enjoy all the Steve pairings and am sick of no woobie!Steve. (ಥ_ಥ)

and CHRIST did it hit me in the Steve feels.

For Stucky...it just bothers me how fucking melodramatic it gets at times. And I think it might be an oversaturation problem on my end too.

I LOVE THAT META! I saw it a week ago and it is actually in my queue for a reblog. But damned if I don't want to read it again. Ugh. All the fucking Steve feels.

And yeah, it can get pretty melodramatic. Which, I don't mind if there are appropriate responses. I want more fics with Steve becoming stressed with having to rehabilitate Bucky! Because no one can deal with that kind of shit without being affected.

Seriously, it's either Woobie!Bucky or Woobie!Tony and for het then it's Woobie!Natasha.

I mean, I'm not gonna rag on a particular author but...it makes me sad.

Woobie!Tony annoys me the most I think. Especially when Steve is the "Bad Guy" in the relationship or just a constant emotional crutch.

I think it annoys me the most because Tony CLEARLY has the most resources out of all them. He's rich -- he has Pepper and Rhodey and Bruce. He's gone to therapy.

That's not to say that he doesn't have issues but FUCK ME fandom, why are we having the guy who grew up with enormous health issues in the Great Depression with a single mother, fought in WWII, and lost everyone he knew and loved after basically killing himself for the greater good be his emotional crutch? WHY?

It just seems like Steve Rogers is tailor made for whump. Not only does he have the tragic past...and present but he looks adorable as fuck!

Sorry to rant. It just grinds my gears a bit.

And it does NOT help that as Chris Evans gets older, he looks increasingly like a guy I used to work with (that I had a bit of a crush on...)

I just want to chime in with agreement.
The only way I'd be more okay with it is if there was a fic that started off with one of the other characters using Steve as an emotional crutch and then Steve cracking and everybody realizing that no he's actually dealing with a shitton of stuff and they need to stop being selfish when it comes to Steve.

Why can't they both be woobies? I would love to see some fics where they both work out their issues together and help each other.

Although, I admit, Steve is my favorite, and I'm very partial to Steve being all caring and healing and helping Bucky through stuff, so I don't mind the woobie Bucky fics so much because of that.

I don't mind them both being woobies. But most pairings for Steve are like 80% other person being a woobie, 10% both, 10% Steve. ;_;

Oh, I know. I wish there were way more of the type of fics where they are both damaged together. That is actually one of my favorite things: two damaged people coming together and helping each other.

I just can't bring myself to hate all the fics with Steve being awesome and protective and helpful because I love that side of his character.

I love it too but I guess I am just missing fics with Steve being able to be a little whumped.

And I really want more fic where Steve is protective/helpful while also dealing with his own stress/PTSD/etc.

Oh, yes, totally. How about Steve being protective/helpful and hiding his own issues to the point where he burns out and then Bucky needs to step in and do the healing? I'd totally read that.

I've read 1-2 of those! And they are lovely.

I'm the same, the caring side to Steve is something that I love about his character so I still enjoy the stories where he helps Bucky. Though I certainly agree that what is really great is fic where the two of them help each other and work through things together.

If they both were written as a woobies, I would be far more into Stucky.

And I do like Stucky, but the fic is always all about Bucky and that gets repetitive and... well, I have a thing for woobie/wobbie ships where the issues of both are equally important and both can and do help each other, so there's a that.

Hah, I came to the comments to say exactly that. Steve's life sucks in so many ways, but the exact qualities that make him woobie catnip for me (self-deprecating, stoic to excess, stubbornly reasonable about almost everything except backing down from a challenge) make all the shit he's carrying nearly invisible next to the twin juggernauts of woobie!Tony and woobie!Bucky.

I mean, I try to do my part. Mostly in the form of gratuitous dirtybadwrong noncon id!fic. (Steve's entire life at this point is neverending war and violence, to the exclusion of sex and relationships among many other things; it would fucking suck and yet be horribly typical of Steve's life if his only experiences in that arena were through yet more violence.) But reading your own fic only gets you so far, you know? I am openly jealous of the endless supply of Bucky!whump that's available on tap for those who enjoy it.

Any recs for non-con wiht Steve as the victim? Your own are fine!

But I, uh. I've written a lot of this, because the Hydra Trash Party kinkmeme is a vicious enabler.

Give Me Your Filth has an unstable Winter Soldier!Bucky trying to work through some of the abuses he's suffered by re-inflicting them on Steve; Steve is nominally a willing victim but doesn't have much choice in the matter either way.

Not Dark Yet is comicsverse but should also be accessible to MCU fans. Supervillains-on-Steve gang rape followed by some Steve/Tony h/c.

justanotherStonyfan has written several fics along these lines--my favorites are Going Down (the original elevator scene fic!) and Four Across.

To Burn Your Kingdom Down is fantastic whumpy mission!fic with A+ Steve characterization, but it's a WIP kinkmeme fill, so caveat lector.

Batting Order / Starting Line-Up, another one with fantastic characterization, has pre-serum Steve getting beat up a lot and Bucky slowly realizing that it's sometimes much nastier than that.

A Hostile Work Environment isn't technically non-con, it's Steve jerking off to filthy over-the-top rape fantasies about all those burly Special Ops co-workers he doesn't realize are Hydra. Scorching hot 5+1 fic, with an extra dirtybadwrong twist in the +1.

I used to only read post-WS fics, but I stopped because I was annoyed by woobie!Bucky and pillar-of-strength!Steve. Now I only read pre-war fics...

...which come with their own issue, in that most of them read like O. Henry's Gift of the Magi, now with period-typical homophobia. It's the tale of saddest, most impoverished newlyweds. Oh no, how sick can Steve get? How pining and devoted can Bucky be? How will they meet rent ~~without selling their bodies~~?

Ridiculous, but the lesser of two evils. And I want an actual Gift of the Magi AU, dammit, it would be perfect.
