You made a liar out of me

[personal profile] iceyred 2015-06-03 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I told myself I wouldn't drink while browsing FS anymore. That it was bad for my health and just made the liberal drivel this board occasionally spews all the worse. My liver didn't deserve that. "Self, you should ease up on the wine," I said.

Then you posted that link and here I am, sippin' moscato and wondering what medications that woman is skipping.

Just lie back, relax, and think of England.

I'm on the comments of that link. Specifically:

"

Yeah, every girl and woman has experience of serving men, that’s how we learn the concrete reality of being forced to serve men! However I hate comparing men to babies because it’s a reversal. Men aren’t babies but oppressors: this is what oppressors do, they’re dependent on their subordinates for the work they steal from them – and they have the material means to enforce that, if women don’t comply, there is some form of repression or another, or at the very least, threat of it.

By contrast the dependence of babies on mothers is vital for their survival, and babies are themselves oppressed by their parents – they have no power to enforce adequate care from their parents whatsoever, they’re literally at the mercy of their parents (carers). Fathers can inflict whatever they want on their children in total impunity. And men’s child abuse, especially girl abuse is as bad as men’s abuse against women."

So do women never abuse children? And all parents are oppressors now? Alrighty then. See you at the next AA meeting.

Re: You made a liar out of me

(Anonymous) 2015-06-03 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know what she'd argue, but usually these types will say any child abuse committed by women was done under the influence of a man. Without the man, the woman wouldn't ever have done it.

And yeah, she totally thinks parents are oppressors, which is why the utopia would abolish modern parental rights and also have completely self-directed education.

Re: You made a liar out of me

Yeah, I've heard that too. Men are to blame for all of women's problems because we're just susceptible to their oppression.

"....Why not work together to make neighborhoods, kibbutz, or businesses to serve our needs? (I use these male terms, like business and industry, because they are descriptive, Though problematic.. We will need to improve them."

The word 'business' is now problematic. I'm thinking of England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales....

Which is super awful and sexist, implying that women are all incredibly weak-willed and simpleminded. But they don't see that's what they're saying, of course.

Re: You made a liar out of me

It gets better. One of the comments is talking about how women owned most of the businesses during the Dark Ages, and could simple leave marriages back then.

Then there's the one who wants to abort all male babies to save the human race...You can't make this shit up. :/

Re: You made a liar out of me

(Anonymous) 2015-06-03 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Aw man, they got so close on the Dark Ages one! Women ran breweries and a good lot of the inns during that period. Definitely not so much the other businesses, though. Also, divorce actually wasn't such a big deal for peasants (not until, like, the 1300s, IIRC), but that wasn't necessarily good for women, because there were men who'd marry women and then bail when they got pregnant.

I don't even know what to say about aborting all male babies. I kinda got the impression it would head in that direction from the main post, though.

I'm just amazed they honestly seem to believe that aborting 50% of the human race will be beneficial in any way. Biology, muthertruckers, did any of you study it?

Re: You made a liar out of me

Biology is a tool of our oppressors. You are clearly still colonized.

Pretty soon you're gonna have to start digging up former members of the British Empire to think of.

India, most of Africa...if I keep reading this lunacy I'm going to have to lie back and think of the American Colonies.

I don't know where you're getting your information, but that article ain't liberal anything.

This article is insaneo.

Re: You made a liar out of me

That article reminds me of that one sociology professor I had who hated business and commerce and loved nothing more than foisting an individual's problems on the collective back of society. Everyone was a victim and nobody was to blame for their own failings.

This difference between that professor and this article is that I can get drunk while perusing this article's bs. Couldn't drink in class.

Re: You made a liar out of me

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2015-06-03 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's a semi-shitty way of approaching things. Semi-correct, semi-shitty, in the way that everything is a little bit true.

I mean, go ahead and hate terrible business practices, but the system isn't inherently bad; that system has literally shaped our species into what it is today (most powerful species on the planet! go team!). And sure... go ahead and decry narrow, directed socialization for causing psychological problems, but to lump all of that on society denies the agency of the individual to accept or reject values.

Actually, that guy seems like a really good example of why psychologists and anthropologists think sociologists are total shit.

I'm just saying there's a huge difference between the liberal view that conscientious, environmentally protective, and prosocial policies are something that benefits the social order and being ...your sociology professor. That guy needs a lesson in human psychology or twelve.

She was a terrible human being who loved to bring up a hypothetical example of a man not being hired because he wore hip hop clothes and that meant the company was racist. I only took one class with that clown, but I'm certain she's on tumblr now, complaining that the reason she's not paid more than $20k is because evil conservatives lobbied to keep adjunct professor pay low in state colleges and not because her field is fucking sociology.

Re: You made a liar out of me

(Anonymous) 2015-06-03 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
well... i mean... conservatives do advocate policies that lead to adjunct professors getting paid shit in state colleges

that does happen

Raising professors' salaries means an increase in tuition.

Also, I googled it, and apparently the national median for an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering is $76k. Electrical Engineering: 81k. Sociology: $57k, which is still great money. If she had learned something more useful she would earn a better salary, it's that simple.

Raising professors' salaries means an increase in tuition.

Not necessarily. Particularly in state schools.

Man I read y'all's shit and it is, while crazy, not sufficient to drive me to drink

You need to toughen up

Some people have a low bar for drinking. It's not so much they get driven to drink as that they find an excuse to.

Pretty much. I wanted to finish off that bottle of moscato and that link was the perfect drinking-reading.
