Null points are embarrassing but it was a non standout boring song...

Yeah. It was better than nil tho'. Unlike Austria's, which we decided was basically Austria saying, "Don't make us host this again next year."

The big mystery for me was Italy doing so well with their entry. Our entire viewing party hated that song. Hated it.

I personally felt the group that looked like they were representing the Drow - I forget who, now - was underrated.

ohhhhh!

you know, the whole contest makes more sense this way

they're not competing to be the best musical act

they're competing to be the worst, just to get out of hosting it

Have you seen the time Ireland sent a puppet that basically sang "Give Ireland 12 points!" over and over again? Ireland was apparently just So. Done. with it. XD

Dustin The Turkey | "Irelande Douze Pointe".

That makes a disturbing amount of sense.

Italy I was neutral for. Didn't like it but didn't particularly hate it so I'm kind of *hand waving non caring sound* but Germany I felt actively irritated/bored with lol.

To be honest I didn't hate it that much - I disliked them less than anyone else at our party, almost everyone else was WHY GOD WHY?! - but I think they should've used the orchestra. I think it would've been a lot better, and it's a their disposal, so, you know, why not? But what do I know, they did better than I expected anyway.

Yeah, it was a perfectly good song that I expected to finish somewhere in the bottom half but I was quite surprised at it doing so badly. There were far worse songs but I guess the worse songs (apart from Austria) had something to liven them up, like the UK's dancers.

Also, Italy was boring as shit.

Yeah Italy actually WON the televoting. It wasn't even entertainingly bad. It was just boring.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-04 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, she was good, but a lot of people were the same level of good. Her song just wasn't very interesting.

She at least has a good attitude about, i.e., she says it's better to have zero points than just a few pity points.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-03 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked it and voted for her!

(Anonymous) 2015-06-03 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish all the songs could get points and also hugs.

My favourite songs never even make the finals these days. Still upset about the bake a cake song from last year.

Eh, deserve is maybe the wrong word - sure, 0 points suck and I kinda pitied her but what did anyone expect? Germany never really wanted/chose that song and it was literally never played on any radio station, never promoted, and it was a massively boring song. If any and all support from a song's own country is missing and if the song is clearly one that just isn't right for the ESC, this was bound to happen. Just waving your ass into the camera won't get you any points anymore if your song isn't some OTT ballad with two key changes, some hyper euro dance trash pop, a drag number or otherwise OTT ~quirky/weird~.
Also: I'm still amazed that some people actually think that the ESC is in any way an actually serious music contest.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-04 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
what? never on the radio? I had it stuck in my ear before I first heard it was our entry to the contest... not that I liked it though. I just don't like that shallow souly deep-voice-lady pop.
fishnchips: (Minato)

[personal profile] fishnchips 2015-06-04 11:31 am (UTC)(link)
Well. at least not on the big radio stations in my state? And certainly not to the extent that other ESC songs were played in the past. I guess it was played one or two weeks after it "won" on TV but after that, nobody seemed to give a fuck anymore and it just... dropped off the radar.
I usually have a very good memory for music (I'm usually the annoying person in an ESC-watching group who points out the similarities of the entries to other existing songs) and I couldn't even remember what the song sounded like until they performed it on the show.
Edited (Wow typos. I swear I wasn't drunk when I wrote this. ) 2015-06-04 20:08 (UTC)

It's absolutely a serious music contest. It's just that the Big Five have given up and keeps sending shit. My country (Sweden) has ended up top three in the last five years - twice in top place - and it's because we take this contest seriousy and actually send good songs with good artists.

fishnchips: (Eh)

[personal profile] fishnchips 2015-06-04 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
... You have a trashy eurodance song that's basically a copy of David Guetta's "Lovers on the Sun" and the only thing impressive and memorable about it was the show.
The ESC hasn't been a serious music contest in decades (if it ever was one). It's not about the music, it's about the show and about popularity won through advertising the songs beforehand.
It's trashy, it's colourful, it's loud and a hilarious, big party and that's what people love about it - the music is just a side dish.
That doesn't mean that there's never any good song among the lot, but the good music rarely wins.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
The only similarity between Heroes and Lovers of the Sun is the guitar. The melody is completely different.

Let's go down the list of last years' winners, shall we:

Rise of the Phoenix - genuinely good ballad
Teartrop - radio hit
Euphoria - massive radio & dance hit
Running Scared - okay, that is a shitty one
Satellite - modern radio hit
Fairytale - massive etno-pop radio hit

Let's also remember that 2015 had some great songs!

Australia, Belgium, Estonia and Norway were all really good songs.

Yes, there is a lot of shit, but there is a lot of good music, and the best songs usually win or end up top three.

There were for sure worse entries. My guess is that it might be due to Lena fatigue? Germany did really well with that kind of entry once, and now they keep going back to that well over and over again, with steadily diminishing returns.

The reason it got no points

(Anonymous) 2015-06-04 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
It was boring. That's the thing with Eurovision: you can be great, or you can be terrible, but you absolutely can't be boring.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-04 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
I can't get over how many people like this song better than the Austrian one.
And I'm German.

At least Austria had a burning piano.

I quite liked her audition for this song because she had amazing confidence and OWNED the stage. She really seemed to enjoy herself. But in the Semi and the Final, the new choreography really limited her stage presence and the song thus came out seeming less energetic, which is why I think that people are saying it's boring.

It's a shame, since I thought it was a nice song!

I never thought I'd say this considering their usual entry quality, but I thought the UK was the one that was totally robbed this year.
