I blame the director. Because when first showed up in the Goblet of Fire, I thought he was creepy, if not unsettling. He was so snakelike. However, Yates just....let's just say he ruined the movies for me in more than one way. He had such good actors in his stable but didn't know how to direct them.

But even in GOF he hammed it up too much. Voldemort is all about quiet menace in the books. Fiennes got it right in some parts. But, like, the part where he shouts as he touches Harry's scar? No.

But that's the thing. He was on the right track. We never know what would have become of his Voldemort if Yates had never taken over for the rest of the franchise. A different director could have made Fiennes reel back a bit. Make it less hammy and more grounded.

But then I always thought Voldemort was a hammy villain to begin with.

I don't think it was Yates per say, though? I mean, I loved DH part 1. It was nearly perfect in my mind. And the one scene with Voldemort he did okay with, though not amazing. But it was nice not having too much Voldemort and I felt Yates got a lot right in that one.

Yeah, I agree.

I found the Dementors WAY scarier than him.

He was NEVER scary to me.
