Fests, big bangs, kink memes, reverse bangs, etc.

Did you manage to complete the challenge or did you just sign up? Did you beta or cheer people on?

What was your experience like? Would you do it again or did it turn you off the whole thing?

I do kinkmemes. Mostly I've either written for the Hobbit or Avengers kinkmemes.

I do landcoms a lot.

I did the Lucius bigbang a couple years. I didn't get any comments on my fics, so it is unlikely I'd do it again.

I've done one kink meme fill. Those are easy and very low commitment so I'll def do it again.

I've done Yuletide 2 times and I plan to do it again. I'm eyeing some other fests going on right now.

I've done Hobbit Big Bang and Tolkien Big Bang. The Tolkien Big Bang just imploded without any warning, which was very disappointing. The Hobbit Big Bang is just the teeniest bit too lax and doesn't really advertise the Big Bang very well. But the mod is pretty good. I'm not sure I'll participate again next year though.

I've done some kink meme fills but I don't get much response.

I've done Yuletide a couple of times. The exchange itself was fun but the community surrounding it was horribly elitist so I lost enthusiasm for it.

Kinkmemes were probably the best experience for me, purely because writing anonymously affords you leeway to experiment and have fun without the pressure of attaching said fic to your name. Kinkmemes afford a lot of freedom for writers I think.

I've done a couple of fandom/character specific exchanges too but they were generally small and lowkey.

I also ran an exchange precisely once. Definitely not doing that again.

I'm curious, what did you find elitist about Yuletide?

I did a Last Author Standing challenge under a different name. It was pretty fun, and I even won, but the organizer disappeared before I ever got my banner. For a while, I thought about trying to revive it here, but the way of fandom has changed so much it seems like a lot of work with absolutely zero guarantee.

Successes? Yuletide, mostly, I guess. I've done six or seven I think. I made a blackout in KinkBingo a few years ago, and also made it through the first ten rounds of a fanfiction contest.

My challenge of choice for the past few years has been to pinch hit. I prefer it to signing up for the exchange, since I can decide to grab a pinch only if I have time or spoons when it goes out.

The only vaguely challenge I have done was one of those GIF ones where you have a list of things and you use one fandom to make GIFs of. I did Band of Brothers. It was fun but took a long time.

I've written for a few kinkmemes in relatively dead fandoms before.

There was no lack of prompts, but the lack of other people posting eventually made me abandon it entirely. It's no fun being one of only three or four people doing fills.

I've done a couple of fic exchanges. Neither recipient ever commented on their fic. I haven't done a fic exchange since, and have no plans to do one again.

I missed the point of a kink meme a few years ago and ended up posting a near big bang-length fill that contained plenty of plot to go with the porn. A few months later, I actually participated in an RPF big bang. I regret nothing.

I've done a lot of big bangs and bingo cards. I've always enjoyed them, and wrote a lot of good fic, too, but I haven't signed up to any this year because I've just had no inspiration, and I'm sort of tired of trying to find betas for my obscure fandoms of one. :/

I've written for kink memes and kink bingo. I loved the kink meme, I had so much inspiration from it. Kink bingo was great too.
