Man if a fic has Fury as the bad-guy and Coulson as the good guy I back-button so hard, it doesn't help that I really don't like Coulson but having him be super-good to Fury's cold evil is just incredibly off-putting. Nope, nada. Not playing that game.

Fury does butt heads with the Avengers sometimes because he is more of a morally grey person than some of the other characters, but he's not actually evil, it's one of the reasons I find him interesting(much in the same way that I find Natasha interesting, she's a good person but is willing to do questionable things for the right reasons).

Yeah, I love him butting heads, I love the minor conflict it brings but this doesn't make him the bad guy? And ..tbh I don't care about Coulson, but if you're throwing him up as all is good then throw fury under the bus and act like they're not friends or partners or whatever.... Nah. Nope.

Exactly.

I mean they both worked in the same shady organistation and Coulson clearly respected and differed to Fury's opinion, but no, only Fury gets written as the bad-guy.
