I get where you're coming from. You take this as a sign that no one can know for sure whether Peggy would approve or not i.e. Peggy's canon feelings are indeterminate vs. all the people who ~know~ for sure one way or the other. It doesn't matter which way but the sureness is what you are arguing against

The weird part is people trying to argue against you in this thread are agreeing with you in that it's indeterminate in canon and could go either way but not getting you're saying the same thing

(Anonymous) 2015-06-05 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
it's kind of frustrating to watch people not getting it tbh

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Well I dunno, OP keeps saying they now have "evidence" that Peggy might not be okay with it, and that comes across an awful lot like, "the actor doesn't like it, so the character wouldn't."

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the key word is "might."

When people have been telling me that of course Peggy would be okay with it, it's frustrating because canon's silent on the matter, you know.

I get what they're saying

I just don't believe them, because of things they've previously said in conversations on this topic

(Anonymous) 2015-06-05 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you know OP?

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not going to pretend that they're not the same anon who's talked about this stuff in the exact same tone and with the same opinions every other time we've discussed that topic

come the fuck on

Not really because I'm rejecting the idea that "word of angel" (actor's opinions) or "word of god" really have much relevance.

OP

I never said that Hayley's word was law.

Where did you get that?

I said that those of us who are uncomfortable with Sharon/Steve can point at Hayley words as a way to show that Peggy wouldn't necessarily be okay with it either. Nothing's been said in canon either way, but it's nice to have backup for your opinions.

Hayley saying something is good for me because I don't constantly have to defend my opinion as though I'm some weirdo for not approving of Steve/Sharon because Peggy would (when Peggy's opinion is ambiguous).

Except Atwell's feelings not only have no relation to Peggy's feelings, they also --as I said above -- don't day anything about Atwell's thoughts on Peggy's feelings. It's possible to dislike something while also finding it appropriate for a character.

I mean, it's great that you have ammo if someone tries to say "hardly anyone is against Steve/Sharon" and if that's all you intended your secret to say...okay. But as it stands, your secret draws conclusions that aren't very sound. Which I guess is why you habe this clarification.

"Except Atwell's feelings not only have no relation to Peggy's feelings"

I know. But given that she's a prominent person and involved in the MCU, I don't have to defend myself as "not a weirdo" for not approving of Steve/Sharon.

It's a perfectly normal opinion to have. Hayley's opinion doesn't make mine correct, of course, but it does help to make it more legitimate to people who are always trying to tell me that of course Peggy would approve of Steve/Sharon (which she might, but she also might not). That's all I'm saying.

Re: OP

I'm sorry but that's pathetic. If you need an actor (who isn't the character) to have an opinion before you can feel secure in disagreeing with people's stupid reasons, that's sad. Their comments about Peggy approving of it in their headcanon has no basis on someone's subjective feeling about Steve/Sharon. That's such a weird aspect of fandom.

But all they have to say in response is "she's just the actor, not the character. Her opinion doesn't matter."

This is just all around stupid. Who cares if people don't agree with you? Unless they're actively harassing you about it, which no amount of defending yourself will stop, get the fuck over it.

How does Hayley Atwell stating her opinion of the ship in any way reflect what Peggy would think of them?

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't.

It's just a quick way of showing how because a prominent actress in the MCU doesn't approve of Steve/Sharon, that it's not a weird opinion to have. It's not weird to not approve of them together.

It's okay if you like them. But it's also okay if you don't. And Peggy's opinion hasn't been stated one way or the other. And we can't take it for granted that she WOULD approve necessarily. She might but she might not.
