Giving away books

(Anonymous) 2015-06-05 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
At the end of every year, there's a massive book sale here in my country and I always end up buying tonnes of books because the prices are so cheap, I can't go over my budget if I tried.

Problem is, as I grew older, I have become the world's pickiest reader, so I now also have a tonne of books I read a few pages of before tossing aside because it couldn't interest me. So I'd really like to give these books away or something, but in a cool way that I can get involved in. I don't want to just dump them at a charity - if I did do that, I'd like to hang around to give them out and tell people about them, you know? I thought about something like, just doing a giveaway online, or taking a walk and giving them to people I meet, but maybe there's a higher purpose I can give them out to at the same time (like some kind of cool reading campaign or something I could promote)?

So what do you think I can do, f!s? Have you ever given out books/something similar in the name of a higher purpose?

Higher purpose????? I put post it notes in the GoT boxset then ditched it at the free bookstore, that's about as higher purpose as a book can get???

When I moved from SC to Oklahoma, I donated like 200 books (including the entire Animorphs series) to my old elementary school. I was never going to reread them so I figured they would do better in someone else's hands.

I haven't been able to find a good way to donate, but I sell them back to Powells in Portland, Oregon. I'm in the US so they pay for shipping and then this way they will resell the books to someone who wants them.

I have the perfect idea for you: http://littlefreelibrary.org/

Even if you don't want to be an official LFL, there's no reason why you couldn't make and maintain your own.
