I'm actually glad the relationship didn't work out because...
(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 01:52 am (UTC)(link)But that said, I rather liked seeing an example of a relationship with two sympathetic characters where things just don't work out. Despite the fact that both would've liked it to.
Too many films, television series etc; seem bent on portraying the character's first significant romantic relationship (and it would be the first onscreen romance for Nat and for the Ruffalo version of Bruce) as their ONE TRU LUV. The exceptions are when their signficant other is deceased early on, or before the opening credits start, providing them with an instantly tragic backstory (The Mentalist, Fringe etc;), or they turn out to have been SECRETLY EVOLLL all along! (Blacklist, various chick flicks with a jerky/bitchy love interest etc; even Frozen )
So I'm actually glad we have this, heck even just as an example to show kids and say "See, sometimes two nice people might like each other, and want to be together, but that doesn't mean it's going to end in a perfect happily ever after, life is like that sometimes."
Do I think some aspects could have been better handled? Yes.
Would I maybe have been a bit more hesitant if the characters had been permanently paired together? Maybe
Has it made me dislike either Nat or Bruce? Nope.
