OP
(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 05:42 am (UTC)(link)See, this is exactly why it bugs me, tho. During the fusion, the original gems disappear, and a new person shows up. Then, when the fusion breaks down, the new person, essentially, "dies" as the original gems return.
Re: OP
(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 08:24 am (UTC)(link)When you think of them in terms of a living embodiment of a relationship rather than an individual person it's not as bad. Remember what Garnet said about Stevonnie? They aren't two people anymore, but Stevonnie isn't one person either. And they could stop whenever they wanted. The unhealthy fusions we've seen are ones where they can't separate willingly, either by force or because they lose themselves in the relationship.
Also, fusions aren't necessarily romantic in nature. Opal is more of a goal-oriented relationship where the two grit their teeth and deal with each other to get a task done, but fall apart once something goes wrong/the task is completed. Sugilite is like two old friends who used to be wild and crazy getting back together for a night of partying. It's healthy in small doses, but when they're together for too long they end up doing things that they regret.
