DA. I'd maybe give that comment a pass. Below a certain threshold, being poor is hugely stressful, and ANY windfall of money (like inheritances) can feel absolutely critical. Obviously, it's a bad idea to be reliant on those kinds of windfalls (for example, I know people struggling to keep afloat who would then go on to use new income on things I would consider unnecessary, like TV service or a Mac laptop, hence keeping them in that situation), but when you're poor, it's really hard to break free from that mode of thinking (staking your well-being on the next monetary reprieve). I just know too many people who have needed and had to fight for inheritances, while I am well off enough that I wasn't eyeing it / thinking about it beforehand, and don't feel like it's MY money.
