what about a nondenominational fest, tho? or would people not want to do random exchanges, do you think?

You mean something like a random exchange on a random day that isn't a holiday/celebration anywhere?

Honestly back in the LJ days, I'd see things like that happen, but with tumblr I don't even know how fandom works anymore or how one would go about organizing that. But I think it's harder for most people to remember a random day, than it is a holiday. Though I wonder if you staged it on a day where something exciting happens in the fandom - like the day of a show's season finale, or something, that might work and it wouldn't really be a holiday at all.

that's a cool idea, actually, like to celebrate a finale. or could be a date special to a specific fandom, like the fma "burn down your house and leave" day.

but it wouldn't work for multifandom events.

Oh yeah! A date significant to a fandom, like FMA Day, or maybe a protagonist's birthday or something, would probably work too. But multifandom events would be a bit tougher to find a day.

Maybe a day like a solstice or equinox, that all the world can relate to (well I guess it doesn't make much difference if you live around the equator lol)?

solstice/equinox could be cool. though you should check your having-solstice-and-equinox privilege and think about the equatorial people!!!

You mean like Festivus: A Holiday For the Rest Of Us?
