Nope sorry, the story behind it was way worse. Also, lengthy. See below?

Oo
Well.

TW: emetophobia (+ other gross stuff, obviously)

Background info: where I live anyone can enter med school, but there is a classing exam at the end of the first year and only roughly a fourth of the students are allowed into second year. Those who fail can try again a second time, not more, and when they fail again it's over forever, they'll never be doctors. First year is just awful, with students trying to sabotage each other.
In the school I attended that infamous first year, the class was over 1000 students, who couldn't fit in one lesson theater all at once so the teacher was filmed and broadcast in real time on a screen in two other rooms, which was a very crappy way to get your classes. Every day the students would come half, sometimes a whole hour early to start queuing to get in the teach-manned theater and they were struggles when the doors opened, with everyone trying to shove and outrun everyone else.

One day during the class, a girl behind me started throwing up. The floor next to her and her neighbour's bag got covered in puke. I count myself very lucky I didn't get splashed. Everybody pretended not to notice as to not interrupt the lesson.
The class went on for three hours, with only a short breather in the middle. Did the ill girl and her neighbour go to the janitor during the breather to get the mess cleaned? Nope. They didn't even bother covering it in paper or something. It just stayed here, stinking to the high heavens.
And I couldn't just move seats, because they just weren't any other seat available in the theater and I didn't want to have to make with the broadcast thing.

Then I remembered a documentary I had seen once, where someone said that when you've breathed in the smell of a corpse, it clings to the walls and hairs in your nose and the only way to get it out was to wipe it with a cloth soaked in sweat. But my deodorant worked very well and I didn't have sweat on me. But I reckoned the idea was to use something tangy and clingy, so I could try my luck with vaginal secretions. Only, well, it was that time of the month and those vaginal secretions...

And that's how I attended the end of the lesson with blood up my nose. But it did block out the smell of puke!

Wait, and nobody tried to, you know, HELP the ill girl? Is this really how you train your future doctors?

I want to tell this story to politicians who think cutting funding for physician training is a good idea.
