As usual I'll be recommending William Gibson. You mentioned sci-fi, and while it's not exactly Star Trek-ish there's plenty of bits in space: Neuromancer, and its sequels Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive (the latter two I think are better books.)

Neuromancer is pretty much the basis for modern cyberpunk (with Blade Runner providing the visual tropes) and the whole trilogy are some of my favorite books ever.
