As somone new to transhumanism

(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Could someone clarify what boundary needs to be broken before we can be considered to have reached the singularity? Because human bodies have been upgraded with technology for quite some time. Not just mechanical upgrades like pacemakers and prosthetics, but chemical upgrades like medication that helps balance our brain chemistry and prolong our life beyond our life expectancy.

So what frontier do we have left to break to count as reaching the singularity?

Not really a believe in transhumanism, but I think you're conflating a few distinct concepts (in particular, transhumanism and the singularity) here.

Don't have an answer for the bright-line between human and more than human

I may well be. As I say, I'm a newbie.

As I understand it, Transhumanism is the idea or inclination of human kind to exceed our natuarl boundaries by use of non-natural means. Most commonly thought to be technology.

The singularity is, if I understand this correctly, the theoretical point where humans achieve a state of oneness with the technology we have created.

If I'm reading it right, the singularity is not the same thing as transhumanism, but a natural point on the transhuman path.

Feel free to correct me.

I think the Singularity is the point at which AI starts programming itself and leaves man behind or something? There are a lot of scientifically dubious claims attached to it.

Our attachment to capitalism needs to be broken first, followed by our irrational belief in non-quantifiable "souls".
