'Feminist' is an identity though.

If you identify as a feminist, you are a feminist.
If you don't identify as a feminist, you're not a feminist.

Feminist is a label for philosophical values. It's not like a religion where you must actively identify. Principles, viewpoints, propositions - they can all be feminist or not feminist, whether or not you agree.

example

"Women should be paid as much as men for the same work." - a feminist proposition. It's a statement and an idea so therefore cannot voluntarily "take on an identity" but it is still feminist.

"I believe women and men are equal." -a feminist idea.

If you don't believe in any gods, you're an atheist, even if you "don't like the label". If you believe women deserve equality, then you are a feminist.
