I guess she got upset about a negative review, commented on it, and started this whole thing where YA authors were warning people that they wouldn't get published if they wrote negative reviews?

The Sparkle Project/YA Mafia wank (it's here, btw) is always the first thing that pops into my mind when I see Stiefvater/her books come up on my twitter or tumblr feed. I'd say it's why I disliked the books, but honestly, I just think they were badly-written.

I liked Shiver, loved the Scorpio Races, and TRC made me cry like a dog who just saw the moon for the first time.

But then I went to a conference. A conference for writers where she was the keynote speaker. The whole shebang was pretty poorly put together (poorly thought out breakout sessions, lots of ego in every room, blatant racism and bigotry, etc), but she was the icing on the cake. I went to her breakout session before she gave her keynote speech. Not only did I not learn a thing, but they were, word for word, exactly the same speech. She couldn't even be bothered to put together two separate speeches. It was incredibly self-indulgent and it was pretty obvious she was just stroking her ego.

When I got home I looked up her online accounts. It was more of the same. Her whole persona reeks of 'Lookit how cute and clever I am!' It gets real old real quick.

I love the books, but with the last book in The Raven Cycle coming out, I'm going to think twice before buying anymore of her stuff. I don't need to support that attitude.

I've read one of her books (Shiver) and it was incredibly boring. Certainly nothing special.

This is the reason I want to know the least amount possible about those who have written my favorite books. I'd hate if a book I loved got tainted by knowing that its writer is a complete wanker.
