(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)No limits.
I think $1M or so would be starting for instant, painless murder and from there the price would range according to what was asked.
I would turn around and donate all that money to other people in need and keep none of it, because I think the benefits to all those people would outweigh one life. If someone else were available to do the murder I would be willing to trade places and get murdered instantly and painlessly if it meant $1M goes to children in need, so no hypocrisy here.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)If you think that there is any amount of money for which you would rape someone, you're a utilitarian. If you don't, you're a deontologist.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)Assuming the money is real and can be used that way, by refusing, I would be saying that my personal honor code or my immortal soul is worth more than that and all those people. I can't accept that.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)If there is, that's going to seriously curtail what I'd be willing to do.
Re: A different kind of Ask thread
Plus, I just know there are certain things I wouldn't be able to make myself do in the first place.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)Re: A different kind of Ask thread
For entirely selfish reasons? Don't have a price.
Re: A different kind of Ask thread
If said person was a killer or mobster or whatever....I might have a price, though it would still be very high. Basically: I could live off this comfortably for the rest of my life sort of high.
Re: A different kind of Ask thread
Re: A different kind of Ask thread
But I think I could eventually be convinced with several million to get rid of someone who is actively a threat at that particular time...
Re: A different kind of Ask thread
What good is money if I'd never be able to live with myself?
Money is not worth more than integrity.
Mind, I'm not in a position right now where I *need* money to survive. (Whether it's even a good thing that we live in a world where humans do need money to survive is a somewhat different discussion.) If I were desperate, either for myself or - perhaps more compellingly - for my as-of-yet-nonexistent children, then then the game might change. But it's hard to say whether it would or how much since I haven't been in that position, and I still doubt I'd be happy with it or guilt-free.
