Also ispired by #11, but reversed

Have you ever met a celeb you really admired and found out they were a sweetheart?

I got to meet Jim Butcher at a con, and he was really down to earth and funny. He had a scheduled reading of "Skin Game," which he did wonderfully, and then asked if we'd like to hear the first four chapters of "Cinder Spires." Ofc we all said HELL YES, so he did an unscheduled reading at 9pm in the hotel lobby. It was great.

I also got to meet James Marsters and tell him that it's partially his fault I'm a writer. He seemed really, genuinely touched by that and was having a great time with the fans.

Anderson Cooper, John Oliver, Ted Allen, and Robin Williams. All were the loveliest people. I was so impressed by them.

One of my uncles claims Daniel Handler is a pretty fun guy to be around, if a bit "queeny" (whatever that means.)

"Queeny" means he may be a bit effeminate, even gay.

Political commentator Craig Crawford of "Congressional Quarterly" (and CNN, MSNBC, and CBS tee vee). A total sweetheart, I can't say enough nice things about him!

I had to read 'm Sorry You Feel that Way: The Astonishing But True Story... by Diana Joseph for a college lit course. I hated that book. I don't remember what about it rankled me so bad, but I did not enjoy the experience.

Anyway, after we finished discussing it as a class, Diana Joseph came to talk about it with us + give a reading that night. As a person, she was amazing. She was so funny and kind, and hearing her read her work out loud gave me a completely different perspective on her stories. I talked to her one-on-one, and she answered my questions very patiently. Then I asked her to sign my book before leaving, and she wrote me a really cute compliment in response! I haven't reread the book yet, but she was so sweet I will eventually - hopefully she releases some new material soon, too.

Neil de Grasse Tyson is a joy to meet in person, and he will burn the midnight oil to give everyone autographs if need be. :-)

Neil Gaiman was absolute joy to meet. A group of us went to the release of "The Ocean at the End of the Lane" in NYC and that book was presigned and handed out to us while we waited but we were allowed to go and meet him and get another item signed or choose to have "Ocean" personalized. In the beginning he talked about his favorite cheese being Wensleydale and that you have go to England to have some. When we went up to talk to him we joked about cheeses and one of our friends fan gushed over him and he took it complete stride, considering this was at least 2-3 hours in to the signing.

I've gone to see him twice more, once at an Evening with Neil and Amanda and once at a small art festival close to my house. Every time I've learned more interesting fun facts and he's always so happy to encourage the audience to pursue their dreams.

James Marsters is adorable at every convention I've seen him at (even if he charges way too much for things).

Armin Shimmerman was pretty awesome the time I was stuck in an elevator with him.

Nichelle Nichols is nothing but adorable.

I hope Nichelle has a speedy recovery from her stroke.

Nichelle is amazing. I think I've told the story of meeting her at a con as a child before. I don't think she had any idea how much it would affect two autistic girls.

Charlaine Harris (the True Blood series author) was absolutely lovely to me when I went hear her speak once. It was a long time ago, but she went out of her way to be kind to me, and the impression really stuck.

Charisma Carpenter came to the bookstore where I was working, and she lived up to her name. Her son was adorable.

John Barrowman was wonderful. The convention staff cut off one of his fans in mid-question due to time constraints and he got so pissed.

George Takei at a con about 20 years back. Took the time to talk to me for a couple of minutes during an autograph signing and got his autograph.

Also Doctor Madblood.

I've gone on at length about Doug Jones and Michael Rooker (spoiler: they're both mega sweethearts, especially Rooker, who's a lot nicer than you'd think), but I gotta say Sean Gunn really took me by surprise at how nice he was.

I wasn't sure what he was like as a person... his social media presence is pretty much confined to Instagram, and he only really posts pics of his and his girlfriend's cats. His comments, well, let's just say brevity is definitely the soul of wit in his case. I don't think he's really done many conventions (hell, the only notable role he was in pre-GOTG was Gilmore Girls as Kirk), so I couldn't find out any second-hand reports from people like I was able to with Rooker.

There weren't many people at his table -especially since he was sandwiched between Karen Gillan and Michael Rooker, who had lines snaking around the back of the autograph tables-, so after a couple people in front of me were done, I got to talk to him. Turns out, Sean is a really approachable and affable guy. Ironically enough, *he* ended up asking me the most questions, b/c I gave him a drawing I'd printed out to sign. Practically played a game of 20 Questions with me, asking me how I drew it, what inspired me, et al. I'm really looking forward to meeting him again at AC3 in a couple months... he's definitely on my 'Will travel out of town to see' con list after PCC!

Not like met met, but I've been at a Q&A wit Gates McFadden and she's just...not like I'd have expected? Like, both really warm and caring but also really thoughtful?

Way late to this shindig, but I once got to meet Bruce Coville. He was the sweetest guy. If I was reading a book between the ages of 8 and 12, there's a 90% chance it was a Bruce Coville book, so I got to meet a hero and he was a sweetheart. Double win.

Terry Brooks was so nice and friendly! Like, i was worried about taking up his time cause of other people wanting to speak to him so was embarrassed and nervous and rushed but he just...kept on chatting until I could hold a coherent conversation.

One downside though is it turns out he doesn't like wrestling.

I'm happy to hear that Jim Butcher is cool. 💃

Jed Brophy, Graham McTavish and Dean O'Gorman (folks from Hobbit) are nice.

Spephen Mangan is my favorite though.

Scott McNeil was super nice. I was having a bad day and he gave me a hug when I blurted out that I wanted one. (I don't normally do things like that, believe me it was a shitty day) But he's very friendly in general to the fans. Johnny Yong Bosh is pretty cool, as long as he wasn't partying too hard the night before an autograph session lol. But he's polite.

I didn't get to talk to him much, was a bit intimidated to be honest, but Tobias Wolff seemed pretty cool.

I know that Supernatural is pretty much widely hated but Jensen Ackles was nothing but lovely and genuinely sweet when I met him.

I met William Gibson at a book signing and he turned out to be a really cool guy. I lived in Chiba for a while, so I asked him why was inspired to set the first part of Neuromancer there and he was friendly and detailed.
