Thank you! The first twenty(?) minutes of the film were excellent and heartbreaking, the rest of it was unmemorable.

I felt similarly about Ratatouille. There was a truly excellent film buried in there, and you could see snippets of it, but it sort of felt like they'd been given one story and had to mash it with another. They did the best they could but it wasn't amazing.

Pixar really needs to tighten its game in the storytelling department - although I suspect some of this has to do with executive meddling.

Ratatouiile is my favorite Pixar movie, but I can definitely see that - and the fact that absolutely EVERYONE had a SUPER detailed backstory they wanted to shove in there, it felt like they took away some of Remy's too instead of leaving it (within reason). HE'S the one who would have been most entitled to a backstory in his OWN movie.

Ohhh, yes. Don't get me wrong, Ratatouille is actually my favourite Pixar movie as well! I just think it could have been better. Like there's the looooong bit at the start with the chasing around in the house that could have been cut or shortened.

And Remy's backstory would have been interesting, too! It's a shame we didn't get more of that, since he's the main character and all. Have it all tie together and everything.

Unmemorable? Talking dogs? An actually Asian-looking Asian kid who manages to tread the line between annoying and adorable? Two geezers having a cane/sword duel? "THANKS FOR THE ADVENTURE, NOW GO HAVE ANOTHER ONE"?

And Jesus Christ, the ending image. I'm not saying the married life montage wasn't incredible, but the whole movie is in fact excellent.

Yes, to this so freakin' hard! I loved Up! I loved the beginning of the movie and thought it was touching and well done; but, I also loved the rest of the movie. I loved the relationship between the cute Asian boy and the grumpy old man. It grew to be so sweet.
