I find it funny that I feel the total opposite; I feel like I was so caught up in writing my own fics that I lost interest in reading other people's. I had limited fannish-time, so it seemed more important to meet my obligations than indulge in consuming, but now (especially when I'm asked for recs etc.) I sometimes feel that I should have given back more, or "paid it foward" in terms of feedback.

But I also think that no one can spread themselves too thinly. I could have read a lot more, but I'd have written a lot less. Given the choice, it made more sense to be creator exclusively, and there's equally nothing wrong with being consumer only. If everyone thought like me, then writers would have no readers for their work.

And fwiw, you're already contributing a great deal to the circle of fandom just be being a reader, and especially if you're a reader who leaves feedback and encouragement. Fanwork would grind to a halt without people like you just as surely as it would without writers/artists.
