Re: AYRT
(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)Oh, it wouldn't surprise me that it does happen, I've just been fortunate enough not to have come across it. Every time I have (and every time I've wanted to use it myself but restrained myself) it's been for for first example -- "why did you write A/B ship in this clearly labelled A/B shippy fic, I hate A/B therefore I hate you and your fic and you should never write anything again!"
Of course I also make the general assumption that if someone's clicking on my fics then they've got the "like" part already covered, so unless it's an obvious rant of the above variety I'll assume that any crit is coming from someone who does usually enjoy some aspect of what I'm writing. If they haven't enjoyed my take on something they normally like then that's valid crit to take on board. I might not agree with it, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they're coming at it from the position of "I like this stuff but this time for these reasons I'm disappointed" rather than "I hate this stuff but felt the need to tell you anyway." The latter has zero value, and if a writer feels they have to respond at all then DLDR seems like a fair enough reply.
(I'm curious as to the other two bad responses in the trinity are now...!)
AYRT
(Anonymous) 2015-06-08 12:07 am (UTC)(link)These two I will say sorta deserve to be there. Because they sound childish and super defensive. Honestly, even if I thought it was right, I would never accuse someone of being jealous of me in a review because it just sounds....no.
