nayrt but, in my opinion, CGI just exists in this awkward space between real-life and cartoon. It pretty much never looks okay to me, because cartoon features don't work in real life and it's not good enough just to look real life. It's like, what do you say, uncanny valley almost for me.

But though cartoons can certainly look bad, they don't compete in my brain with how things ought to look "in real life".

I sort of agree with this. I'm okay with CGI if they're trying to make the characters as realistic as possible (like in some video games), but it looks so damn awkward with a deliberately cartoon-y style. I've gotten used to it by now, but I still really miss traditionally animated films, haha.
