If Americans knew more about the Russians in World War II I doubt they'd be going "Yay! Russia!"

Stalin was as bad as Hitler in a lot of ways (and in some ways worse) but I just find it depressing that this means we have to ignore the sacrifice of Soviet soldiers.

I won't deny that that happened but...when you read about what the Nazis did in the USSR, they were no better.

Plus, that's a HUGE issue throughout warfare:

Given the state of the Red Army though, I'm not surprised that the situation devolved so badly.

Read your own cite:

Beevor, the author of the best-selling Stalingrad, says advancing Soviet troops raped large numbers of Russian and Polish women held in concentration camps, as well as millions of Germans.

The extent of the Red Army's indiscipline and depravity emerged as the author studied Soviet archives for his forthcoming book Berlin, to be published in April by Viking.

Beevor - who was educated at Sandhurst and served in the 11th Hussars (Prince Albert's Own), an elite cavalry regiment - says details of the Soviet soldiers' behaviour have forced him to revise his view of human nature.

"Having always in the past slightly pooh-poohed the idea that most men are potential rapists, I had to come to the conclusion that if there is a lack of army discipline, most men with a weapon, dehumanised by living through two or three years of war, do become potential rapists," he told The Bookseller.

But yes, the Russian Army is a depraved and abusive subculture, even today. They have the confused attitude that brutality is strength.

I can't give two shits about these accusations, because I know from my grandparents on both sides that yes, there were cases of rape and marauding, but people responsible and found were generally executed on the spot.

Seeing as West portray my country, this war, our people and what in general you tend to "know" about our casualties, I can't really care about one more scary-red-terror-fairytale.

Ah yes, you also know nothing of today state of Russia army. You could though, there are tons of reports from Crimea campaign, but you are too lazy and brainwashed to believe anything but what your media feed you.

I really detest western people. Most of my friends, too. I hope your rot never gets to my country.

Unlike the Whole Truth and Nothing but the Truth spread by the Kremlin, amirite? Have they yet officially admitted to sending troops to Ukraine or is that just "Western propaganda, phui"?

You and your friends can go choke on your makhorka for all we care. Just keep your army out of other people's countries.
