In RP it's frowned upon to write smut with minors, but i was wondering what people thought about after they've turned 18? WOuld you consider it creepy for someone to start writing smut with someone they knew while they were still underage? Does it depend on the age gap?

(jk, but this 17 year old keeps pushing for smut between our characters and i'm really not into the thought, but it got me wondering)

After they're 18 I wouldn't find it creepy.

17 years and 355 days: Creepy.

It's not about how old they are, it's that going for it at 17 years and 355 days shows that the older person is unable to wait a single day and shows a creepy lack of self restraint.

Hi, in my country legal age is 14. 1/3 of teenagers have done it around 16, most do it later, quite a few later than 18. The age of the partner is usually not a question and varies, depending on the situation, relationship kind and (mutual!! I was totally into 20~25 year olds when I was 16)preferences.

I find the thought of anything sexual with someone ten years younger than me kind of creepy, to be honest.

Well, it depends how old the other party was. If you were college-age yourself and knew someone who was 17-going-on-18, it wouldn't necessarily be creepy even though you'd avoid it until after they were legal just to cover your ass.

If the age gap starts getting wider, say 10 or so years and upwards, then there's a more creepy 'waiting until they're legal' potentially grooming vibe to it. As though someone's been cultivating the friendship just for the smutty RP tiems.

But then as a 30-something, the thought of dealing with even an 18-20 year old in an RP setting would send me screaming in the opposite direction, so...

This is so weird to me. I guess I'm in an awesome fandom or something because all the under-18 RPers are really upfront about being under 18 and they're like, "I will not RP smut, as I am underage!"

i wouldn't be that bothered by it tbh. now if they were pushing for actual real-life sex that would be creepy as hell, but if it's just writing fic or whatever about fictional characters then i don't see the harm.

The harm comes when that minor's parents look at their computer and see what they've been doing with an adult.

Because guess whose ass is on the line when that happens? Here's a hint, not the minor.

Minors pushing for smutty RP with people they know are adults are selfish little brats.

I won't even entertain the idea of writing smut with someone who I know is under eighteen, not even vague "what if" type plans where it's just talk. I've got no interest in being forced to register as a sex offender because someone's child can't whack it to plain old smut fic like most of the rest of us did when we were underage.

Once they're eighteen though, I hold them to the same standards as my RP partners who were over eighteen before we started writing together. As long as they're not pushy and can agree to character development before the sex, I don't care how old they were when I met them. I'd probably feel differently about it if someone whose backside I'd diapered in my teens wanted to smut when they're legal, but that's yet to be relevant.

I think smut rp is creepy and awkward as fuck to read anyway, so why not write it with your just legal partner. If it feels like cybering to either of you, at least the feds won't be on you.

I'd find it creepy enough to not personally do it, but I probably wouldn't smut with an 18 year old I met after they turned 18, either. I'm old enough that the experience gap would make it not-fun at best, and skeevy feeling at worst.

I wouldn't necessarily judge someone else for going for it, though, especially if they were on the younger end of adulthood themself - it really depends on what the dynamic between them was beforehand, and whether they've basically been holding a countdown until the younger partner was legal, or sort of just went 'huh, I guess we can do this now'.

Depends on the people involved. I had an rp partner who was in their 30s when I was 18 that I smutted with - but I also had rp partners who were around that age that it just wasn't comfortable to doing it with.

That said, as far as minors pushing for smut...I generally shut them down by pointing to a high-ish profile case where I live that dealt with basically this exact situation. As often as not that drives home the "shit gets real bad" part of it to them.

If it's a mature 'minor', and you're mostly RPing non-smutty stuff with just a bit of smut thrown in when it seems plot appropriate, I don't necessarily think it's the greatest idea in the world and I wouldn't endorse it as such but i also don't think that much harm would come of it.

However, if the younger person is 16 or younger and/or immature, and all you're doing is RPing smut, and you as the older, responsible party are encouraging this, then that's where it starts to get creepy.

Basically, if you're genuinely RPing, it's probably fine - but if what you're doing is essentially intensely sexting but using different characters names, then you should ask yourself what you're doing sexting a minor.

On this subject, in high school I knew a few 16 year old girls who RPed a lot with women in their 40s, including the occasional smutty scene. The smut didn't bother me then and doesn't now, though I did think it was weird and the 40 year olds were weird for doing it - what bothered me was the many hours a day they would spend RPing, including in the middle of the night because of time differences. But 10 years on they're fine, no lasting psychological damage has been done from writing the fictional sex with old ladies.

The law does not distinguish between a minor and a mature minor. If they or their parents want to report it, then "Sorry officer, they were really mature for their age!" is not going to help you.

And you had 16 year old friends who'd stay up all night just to RP smut with adults, and you think the 40 year olds were the ones who were weird? Uh...

Don't RP smut with minors. An RP I was part of had their site's PMs subpoenaed by the FBI after a guy's wife got suspicious about his sexting habits and found out that one of his partners was underage. (Or so the mods claimed - I wasn't around when it happened, so this is second-hand.) It's not worth even the minuscule risk of getting in trouble over it.
