Back in my day, there was at least tons of comments in that thread a day, full of rows of tiny pokemon sprites and pixel eggs that would birth pixel dragons or other animal fantasy things that grow and evolve the more clicks they received. And I, in my constant endeavor to not see the appeal of things others like for no discernible reason, would scroll by and not click a single one.

And gdi I kind of miss seeing a chunk of them now.

I kind of miss them too, weirdly. But yeah, never clicked a single one.

Just so you know, I think that general change in the comm is not on us.

About 1.5 years ago, the maker of VDex (the site that 80%+ of the clickables came from) announced that she was closing up shop. That hosting cost too much and it was taking up too much of her time. She said the servers would be up for three more months maximum.

I'd sunk so much time into that game, I was rather crushed. And rather than keeping sinking time into it, I stopped.

Apparently based on recent posts, it's still going and ngl I've been super tempted to go back there. But then I also used to spend 1 hour a day on that site when no events were going on and 4+ hours a day when there were and overall it was pretty unhealthy. So I now don't. :(

jsyk what? You read too much into that, although I think it would have been ridiculously intense if I had suggested that with any amount of sincerity. Wait wait wait I take it back; you contribute to the immediate death of fs by refusing to reboot your hobby. For shame! For shaaaaaame!

Huh. So that's why I don't see vdex ones. No idea about dragon cave, so I just ended up assuming some fandom migration to FR happened or everyone got bored/angry or whatever.

I was always curious about server upkeep, mostly I figured the owners had a good bandwidth deal just for the images (not even taking to account the number of accounts). The sprites take a chunk simply by being in a forum signature, or even here on page 2, and whatnot being seen repeatedly (eg: the views and bandwidth used by a 01. secret beats anything under the cut simply by showing up on lj and dw friend lists).

It sounds like a net positive, despite losing your progress in that game, that it shut down while it did. If only because it's not worth investing time into an addiction for a game that can't be stable, but more because you got an out sooner rather than later :)

Haha, that came across wrong. What I meant is that I'm sure some people have probably looked at the clickables (or lack thereof) and have been like "Aww man. Not only are there less secrets, but even the clickables are gone. Fandom!secrets sure is dying! [insert simpson gif here]"
